Gabriel Gauffre
Raised in Paris, Gabriel Gauffre received a Bachelor’s in Sociology and Human Sciences in 2010 from Université René Descartes Sorbonne Nouvelle. He left the French capital for London, U.K. in 2010, where he undertook an MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the London College of Communication.
He produced “Occupy, an Identity”, a project looking at how the 2011 American protest movement which survived through its member’s will rather than its relevance. Later, he moved to China, broadening his horizons, while collaborating with agency Transterra Media.
There, he worked for local magazines, and covered China for numerous publications including Ouest France, Vice France, Delayed Gratification, in 2015 - 2016. He later collaborated on a regular basis with AFP, while producing more personal work in Shanghai.
His project “Brulures” was one of the winning projects for the Rencontres Photographiques du 10e, exhibited at Golf Photo Plus, shortlisted for the Belfast Photo Festival and Vantage Point Sharjah 9, at the Sharjah Foundation in Dubai.
His most recent project, “Bashur”, is a winner for the Reclaimed Award in Cologne, was shortlisted for the Taylor Wessing photographic portrait prize 2021, and is shortlisted for Encontros da Imagem, in Lisbon.
