Iconem - Lalish
Iconem is a start-up which focuses its efforts on scanning and digitizing at-risk cultural sites around the world. Lalish, located in the heart of Iraqi Kurdistan, is the most sacred site to the Yazidi. They must make the pilgrimage there at least once in their life, in order to visit Sheikh Adi ibn Musafir’s tomb.
Even though Lalish isn’t in direct danger, the site has been renovated multiple times, meaning documentation is needed to follow on the numerous renovations which took place there, as well for understanding its architecture.
On top of systematic documenting details, murals, and structures themselves, it was necessary to give a human scale to these images. Prayers, rites, and gatherings constantly occur from sunrise to sunset.
